Newsflash

  • Heath Ledger and Sean Penn are in talks to star in a top-secret drama by writer-director Terrence Malick, the man behind Badlands and The Thin Red Line. Ledger would play a lead role opposite an actress, yet to be cast, with Penn taking a supporting role. Details of the plot have not been revealed - often the case with Malick's films - but an insider told the Hollywood Reporter it was a "complex drama". Filming is set to begin in March.
  • Tree Of Life’s journey has been long and arduous. Like a third grade game of Oregon Trail, the script’s voyage has been chock-full of deserting actors, money shortages, and lots and lots of dead oxen. A few years ago, Colin Farrell was in talks to play the principle protagonist, but after a month long shooting schedule in India was announced, the well-endowed actor cut bait. Rumors once again began recirculating yesterday, and Farrell is nowhere to be found.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Sean Penn and Heath Ledger are amidst negotiations to take up the supporting and staring roles respectively. The general plotline follows, well, no one really knows what the Terrence Malick script is about. I’m guessing it’s not a sequel to Fast Times At Ridgemont High or Lords Of Dogtown. Maybe someday. Production is set to begin in March; so, expect to be seeing this during the Summer of ‘09 or slightly sooner.

From the Summer 2005 issue of Vitals Man magazine:

Ledger's Sydney: Entertainment

Ledger recently saw an exhibit of photographer Bill Henson's work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
In the summer (December to February), he catches old movies at Baileys Moonlight Outdoor Cinema in the city's Centennial Park.

Ledgers Sydney: Food

Icebergs, a palatial oceanside restaurant, has a terrific salt-crusted, char-grilled rib eye. There's also an impressive bar, a gym, and just outside if a saltwater swimming pool. When surf's up, waves break into the pool.
At the Establishment Hotel, Ledger prefers the fourth-floor raw bar Sushi E to the "stuck-up" restaurant Est.
He gets his In-N-Out fix at Oporto.
The haute seafood temple Rockpool serves prawns with caramelized pork belly.
A laid-back beachfront spot, Sean's Panaroma, has linguine with lemon and parmesan - it's a local legend.
Ledger regularly hides out in the paparazzi-proof booths at Hugo's Lounge where the caramelized onion tart is a must-order.

Ledger's Sydney: Shopping

The bibliophilic Ledger is a regular at Berkelouw Books, an antiquarian bookseller with an upstairs cafe, and Ariel, which stocks contemporary fiction and top-notch art tomes; both spots are open til midnight.
The Australian Wine Centre in the Rocks neighborhood peddles the kinds of indigenous reds Ledger favors -  Cyril Henschke's Mount Edelstone shiraz and cabernet blends.

Ledger's Sydney: Surfing

Ledger catches waves at Bronte (near his apartment), Narrabeen and Dee Why beaches.
Ledger owns Dahlberg and Bear surfboards, both of which are stocked at Bondi Surf Company.

Ledger's Sydney: Swimming

Cove-like Clovelly Beach and the less crowded Gordon's Bay are Ledger's top spots for rock-diving and snorkeling.
