Newsflash

  • Heath Ledger and Sean Penn are in talks to star in a top-secret drama by writer-director Terrence Malick, the man behind Badlands and The Thin Red Line. Ledger would play a lead role opposite an actress, yet to be cast, with Penn taking a supporting role. Details of the plot have not been revealed - often the case with Malick's films - but an insider told the Hollywood Reporter it was a "complex drama". Filming is set to begin in March.
  • Tree Of Life’s journey has been long and arduous. Like a third grade game of Oregon Trail, the script’s voyage has been chock-full of deserting actors, money shortages, and lots and lots of dead oxen. A few years ago, Colin Farrell was in talks to play the principle protagonist, but after a month long shooting schedule in India was announced, the well-endowed actor cut bait. Rumors once again began recirculating yesterday, and Farrell is nowhere to be found.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Sean Penn and Heath Ledger are amidst negotiations to take up the supporting and staring roles respectively. The general plotline follows, well, no one really knows what the Terrence Malick script is about. I’m guessing it’s not a sequel to Fast Times At Ridgemont High or Lords Of Dogtown. Maybe someday. Production is set to begin in March; so, expect to be seeing this during the Summer of ‘09 or slightly sooner.

HOW TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL FAN LETTER
Writing your favorite celebrity can be a fun and rewarding experience. However, there are a few things to remember when writing to be sure that you get the best response possible. Here the best tips and tricks that have been time-tested and proven to work:

  • Always send a self-addressed stamped envelope. The abbreviation for this is "SASE."
Enclose a folded 8x10 manila envelope, pre-addressed back to you with the proper postage (usually 2-3 stamps.) Use your address as the return address. Enclose this along with your letter and photograph (more on this later) in a 9x12 manila envelope. Make sure that you weigh the total package at the post office to ensure correct postage.
  • Celebrities will often enclose a photo of themselves, but to help maximize responses, it is a good idea to enclose a photo of your own.
This can be any type of photo, even one torn out of a magazine will do.
  • DO NOT send food, money, or gifts to celebrities.
They do not appreciate receiving a large package in the mail. If you don't understand why, the key words are: mail bombs!
  • It is a also a good idea to enclose a few 3x5 blank index cards.
Only enclose a maximum of three - more is asking a little too much. Celebrities will usually return these, and they're a great addition to your collection. They are also great to trade with friends and other autograph collectors.
  • Always include a letter acknowledging the star's accomplishments.
Constructive criticism is okay, but be assured that non-constructive criticism will result in your letter ending up in the trash!
  • If you are writing to a celebrity in another country, include three to four International Reply Coupons (IRCs) in the envelope as return postage.
  • Research the celebrity's biographies and works.
  • Include personal information about how much you like them and that will make them all the more willing to reply.
  • Preferably type your letter, or at least write it neatly.
  • Keep it short, and get to the point quickly.
  • Kindly ask for an autograph, but do not beg.
  • Double-space, and remember to include your name and address on the letter.
  • Check your spelling!

The hardest part about collecting autographs and getting replies through the mail is the wait.
Some celebrities will respond immediately, but some can take up to a year! As a general rule, you should allow four to eight weeks to receive a reply. The rule here is to BE PATIENT!
